On Friday, May 27, the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce held the official grand opening of Timberline Glamping Company’s new Amicalola Falls franchise.

Timberline Glamping Company is a North Georgia-based company that offers customers a way to camp and enjoy the great outdoors while enjoying modern conveniences including beds, heating and air conditioning, refrigerators, coffee makers and Moreover. According to Amicalola Falls franchise owners Jeff and Sarah Johnson, they first heard about glamping when they went to one of Shady Grove’s glamping sites on Lake Lanier and knew it was glamping. It was something they wanted to bring to Dawson County.

“We actually heard about the glamping experience at Shady Grove at Lake Lanier; we wanted to be campers there, we wanted to try it, and here we are,” said Sarah Johnson. “We got fully involved, so now we wanted to bring the experience to Dawson County.”

She said glamping is a great way for those who aren’t fans of traditional camping to still enjoy a vacation in the great outdoors.

“I think every family has someone who might like to camp and someone else who might not, so that kind of bonding allows everyone to benefit,” Sarah Johnson said. “It’s such a beautiful place to live, it’s such a beautiful place to visit, and there’s so much to offer, so we’re really excited to be able to kind of bridge the gap with people who don’t like not really camping but want to experience something outdoors and have all the luxuries of home.

Several special guests were present at the dedication ceremony, including State Rep. Will Wade, Sen. Steve Gooch and District 2 Commissioner Chris Gaines.

“I’m thrilled to be here and I have no idea how much fun I’m going to have with my daughter now that we’re going to have an option for her to camp,” Wade said at the ceremony. “It’s great; it’s just another great thing to highlight what’s going on in Dawson County and this area.

“It’s definitely a new level of ‘primitive camping,'” Gooch added, sparking laughter among those in attendance at the ceremony. “I think the Ritz Carlton needs to come here and take a look at this; It’s awesome.”

Gaines said as county commissioner, he has seen firsthand the journey that Timberline Glamping has taken to get to where it is now, and he is thrilled to finally see it come to fruition.

“To have this day happen and cross the finish line is exciting,” Gaines said. “Dawson County has grown with businesses, but it’s really the people behind the businesses and the passion they have.

Dawson County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Mandy Power welcomed business and franchise owners to the community, adding that seeing Jeff and Sarah Johnson open the business with the helping their children is exactly what she and the other chamber leaders particularly enjoy.

“As a chamber, of course, we love business and we especially love small business, and being a family business and having everyone involved is really what we love to see,” Power said. “We are thrilled to have Timberline Glamping join the chamber.”

Dawson County Chamber of Commerce Board Chair Shannon Voss added that a business like Timberline Glamping Company is truly a combination of many of the unique things Dawson County has to offer.

“I can’t stress enough that when you take Dawson County and all the things we have to offer, it really integrates everything with all the things we have out there,” Voss said. “It really adds a whole other thing that draws so many people here, so we look forward to all of your future successes.”

Friday’s ribbon cutting marked Timberline Glamping’s official opening day, just in time for the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Before cutting the ribbon, Sarah Johnson added that she was excited to see what customers think about glamping sites and what’s next for their business.

“We’ve worked so hard over the past few weeks, and just to see everyone here enjoying it and taking it in is really exciting; we are so excited about what it brings,” said Sarah Johnson. “We’re just thrilled for our first weekend to see all the families come out here and just enjoy what’s been created here.”
