HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) — Amanda Friss of Harrisonburg worked at a bookstore in New York’s West Village, and there she said she found community.
Friss says she has a passion for all things book and wants to share that with the community by opening an independent bookstore downtown in 2023.
“I think every town and every town should have independent bookstores. It’s really about people and people coming together and we’ve made a lot of progress on the store so far,” Friss said.
Parentheses Books will be located at Liberty Street Mercantile, a new indoor market at the corner of Liberty St. and Gay St. The building will house a collective of local businesses.
The bookstore will share space with a florist, wine bar and other retail outlets.
“I think all the small businesses in downtown Harrisonburg really enrich our community, so books are my thing and I wish I could contribute in some small way by making this bookstore a reality,” Friss said.
Friss is actively raising the $50,000 needed to officially make the store a reality, and you can learn more about Parentheses Books and how you can help that effort by clicking here.
