Newcastle United suffered a third successive Premier League defeat as they were demolished 5-1 by Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon. The Magpies had taken the lead six minutes before the break thanks to Fabian Schar’s free-kick, but were caught moments later by a Ben Davies header.

Eddie Howe’s side then capitulated in the second half as Heung-min Son and Matt Doherty put the game out of sight just 10 minutes after the restart. But the pain didn’t end there, however, for Newcastle as Emerson Royal and Steven Bergwijn made a miserable afternoon in north London worse for the Magpies.

Thankfully, after the rest of the weekend’s results, the defeat didn’t do too much damage, with Newcastle sitting nine points above the bottom three. It also ends three successive games on the road for the Magpies after games with Chelsea and Everton before the international break, where they also came empty-handed.
