ILOILO CITY – The University of San Agustin (USA) recently launched its first USA-eMerch e-commerce portal through the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO).
“The USA-eMech was dreamed up in 2019 when there was a need to commercialize United States intellectual property,” said ITSO Partner Gordon Guillergan.
According to Guillergan, the portal was designed after the United States obtained trademark registration in 2018, which paved the way for the commercialization of any intellectual property.
Guillergan said he pitched the idea to ITSO director Dr Assem el Baghdady, based in the UK.
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, ITSO still continued the project by going online.
USA-eMerch initially had 17 Medical Laboratory Science textbooks which is ITSO’s pilot program for its commercialization project.
Once purchased, the digital formats of the Pharmacy and Biology curriculum textbooks can be used with a specialty license.
“This specialized license for the buyer can reduce the number of infringements. It can also trace the source of the breach to the University,” Guillergan said.
Students, faculty, and alumni can purchase textbooks, books, and merchandise using GCash, PayMaya, or GrabPay e-wallets. All online merchandise can be picked up at the San Agustin University Bookstore.
